Mid-sized Limited Edition Prints

As with the Fireboards, we use ten different hand-cut stencils to lay down ten semi-transparent colors, resultin in 30 to 40 colors total by overlapping. We stencil directly onto birch veneer plywood. Each print is signed by A. Michael Shumate, the original artist, as well as initialled by the stenciller, in the same way engravers used to sign their works as well as the original artist.

Our pictures (24" x 16") are framed in a two part ship-lap folk style frame and come ready for hanging. Our editions are of a run of 500. Once that number is reached, the stencils will be retired permanently.

The Fox's View

The Fox's View

What is the fox thinking of as it looks out over this country scene? Surely he doesn't care about the boy napping on the haywagon or the man plowing his field. He might be wondering if there are some chickens in that barn, but the fox has no clue what happens in the mill. And he certainly has no need of that wagon of Dr. Joe's Elixir heading his way. But whatever he's so busy looking at has distracted him from seeing the rabbit who could have been his supper.

Grandma's Kitchen

Grandma's Kitchen

Grandma is making a cherry pie while her daughter tends the grandchildren. The oldest girl is helping by finding something in the cupboard but her brother might just be teasing. Maybe Grandma should have him pump some water or put more wood in the stove. That might disturb the cat who is having a nap right in front.

Forgotten Friends

Forgotten Friends

Up in the attic are so many things that we don't use any more but we don't want to throw away. There's the trunk and the dollhouse and all manner of toys that the children have outgrown. There's the old sled hanging on the chimney and the top hat that isn't in fashion any more. Someday the grandchildren will enjoy all of these treasures in the attic.
